Tulasi-pujana
Sri Narada said: “Hearing Radha’s words, and reflecting on them in her heart for a moment, Candranana, the best of all friends, replied.
“Sri Candranana said: ‘O Radha, service to Tulasi gives the greatest piety, the greatest good fortune, and the greatest benediction. It gives Lord Krishna’s association.
‘You should always gaze on Tulasi, touch her, remember her, glorify her, bow down before her, offer prayers to her, plant her, and worship her. Then she will grant Your desire.

‘They who day after day serve Tulasi in these nine ways attain the result of pious deeds performed in many thousands of millions of yugas.
‘A person who plants Tulasi liberates his family. As many branches, sub-branches, seeds, flowers, and leaves as are on the Tulasi he has planted, so many ancestors and descendents in his family for thousands of
kalpa-yugas will go to Lord Kana’s transcendental abode.
‘O Radha, by offering Lord Krishna a single Tulasi leaf one attains the result of offering Him every flower and leaf that exists.
‘A person who with offerings of Tulasi-leaves worships Lord Krishna is not touched by sin as a lotus-leaf is not touched by water.
‘By protecting a Tulasi forest one attains the result of giving in pious charity a hundred bharas of gold or four hundred bharas of silver.
‘A home in the midst of a Tulasi forest is a sacred pilgrimage place. Yamaraja’s servants will never enter that home.
‘They who plant a sacred Tulasi forest, which fulfills desires and removes all sins, are the best of people. They will never see Yamaraja.
‘For persons who plant, protect, water, see, or touch her, Tulasi burns the sins committed with the body, mind, and words.
‘On a single Tulasi leaf the holy places beginning with Puskara, the sacred rivers beginning with the Ganga, and the Deities headed by Lord Vasudeva reside.
‘Even though stained with a hundred sins, a person who touches a Tulasi-manjari as he leaves this life does not see Yamaraja.
‘Sin does not touch the the body of a sinner anointed with Tulasi-paste.
‘Wherever is the beautiful shade of a Tulasi forest, there sraddha should be offered. There aksaya should be offered to the pitas.
‘O friend, as four-faced Brahma cannot describe all the glories of Lord Krishna, who holds the sarnga bow, so he cannot descibe all the glories of Tulasi.
‘A man or woman who offers sandal-paste and Tulasi to Sri Krishnacandra’s feet attains the results I have told to You.
‘O gopi, serve Tulasi every day. Then Sri Krishna will always be Your submissive servant.’”
Sri Narada said: “O king, after hearing Candranana’s words, Sri Radha, the queen of the rasa dance, in order to please Lord Krishna, began to serve Sri Tulasi.
“Taking Tulasi, beautiful with many green leaves, to the middle of a ketaki forest, and placing her in a Tulasi-temple that was round, tall, a hundred hastas in size, beautiful with walls of gold and rubies, splendid with an outer wall of emeralds, diamonds, and pearls, decorated with cintamani gems, arched gateways, gold flags, and gold awnings everywhere, and glorious like Indra’s palace, at the time of the star abhijit, saintly Radha, following Garga Muni’s instructions, served Sri Tulasi.
“Beginning with the full moon of the month of Asvina (September-October), and ending with the full moon of the month of Caitra (March-April), to please Sri Krishna, saintly Radha followed a vow with great devotion.
“Month after month She sprinkled Tulasi with milk, sugar-cane juice, grape-juice, mango-juice, pancamrita, and many kinds of sweet and cool juice. On the first day of Vaisakha (April-May), She ended the vow.
“O king, following Garga Muni’s instructions, King Vrisabhanu’s daughter Radha then pleased two hundred thousand brahmanas with a great feast of fifty-six courses.
“O king of Videha, then Radha gave them daksina of a hundred-thousand splendid large pearls and many costly garments and ornaments.
“Radha gave ten million bhras of gold to Garga Muni. With great devotion She gave a hundred bharas of gold and pearls to each brahmana.
“The demigods’ drums sounded and the apsaras danced. The demigods showered flowers on the Tulasi-temple.
“Then, seated on a glorious throne on a gold pedestal, her eyes lotus petals, and her gold crown and earrings glittering, beautiful four-armed Tulasi, who is dear to Lord Krishna, appeared.
“Descending from the sky, Tulasi, beautiful as a flowering vine, with her four arms embraced and then kissed Radha, who wore a new vaijayanti garland and whose snake-braids were covered with a yellow cloth.
“Sri Tulasi said: ‘O daughter of Kalavati, I am pleased with You. I am eternally conquered by Your loving devotion. O beautiful one, as if You were an ordinary human being, You very carefully followed this vow.
“‘The desire that fills Your heart, mind, intelligence, and senses, will be attained. Lord Krishna will be kind to You. You are very fortunate.’”
Sri Narada said: “To Tulasi, who has spoken these words and who was dear to Lord Krishna, Radha, the daughter of King Vrisabhanu, bowed down and said: ‘May I have unalloyed devotion for Lord Krishna’s lotus feet.’
“Saying, ‘So be it,’ Krishna’s beloved Tulasi disappeared. O ruler of Mithila, O best of kings, then Radha, King Vrisabhanu’s daughter, went home happy at heart.
“O king, a devotee who hears this wonderful story of Sri Radha attains first the three goals of material life and then the supreme spiritual goal of life.”
Thus end the Second Canto Vrindaban Khanda, Sixteen Chapter, of the Sri Garga Samhita, entitled “The Worship of Tulasi.”

Unbelievable
HERALD SUN (Aust): A JUDGE has allowed a 12-year-old Victorian girl to start a taxpayer-funded sex swap, despite objections from the child’s father.
The girl has begun court-approved hormone treatment in the first step toward a complete gender switch.
The Family Court orders also permit the girl, who cannot be named, to apply for a new birth certificate, passport and Medicare card in a boy’s name.
The application to allow the hormone treatment was lodged by the girl’s mother.
A state government observer, an endocrinologist, a psychiatrist, a family counsellor and a lawyer acting on the child’s behalf all supported the plan.
Only her father, who lives interstate, opposed the proposed sex change, though he did not attend the final court hearing and could not afford to send a lawyer on his behalf.
The court was told he could not accept that his daughter had always seen herself as a boy and considered her too young to make such a decision.
The mother expressed sadness and deep concern for her daughter, but said she would stand by the girl.
The child’s lawyer told the court she considered the girl capable of making an informed decision.
The girl is one of the youngest patients in Australia granted permission to begin a sex swap.
The court was told early intervention was needed because the child was stressed and anxious at the prospect of starting her period and had threatened self-harm.
Hormones implanted under her skin every three months will stop her menstruating and prevent her hips and breasts growing.
The court heard the hormone therapy was reversible and would give the family “breathing time”.
A further court application must be lodged in coming years for testosterone treatment to deepen her voice and promote growth of facial hair and muscles.
Surgery to remove her womb or ovaries, or build an artificial penis must wait until she is at least 18.
Details of the case came to light in a Family Court judgment issued this month. The hearing was held in December, behind closed doors.
The case was heard over two days. The next day the judge issued orders approving the treatment.
“The expert evidence made it clear that if I determined to make an order for the treatment, I should do so with expedition,” the newly released judgment said.
News of the judge’s decision yesterday ignited debate among medical ethicists and child-health experts.
Medical ethicist Dr Nicholas Tonti-Filippini said the decision was astounding.
“I fail to see how it can be in the interests of a young girl to undergo treatment that will change her for the rest of her life,” he said.
“Twelve is a time of great uncertainty for a young person . . . I would question whether the medical evidence supports treating (her) in this way.”
Australian Childhood Foundation chief executive Dr Joe Tucci, a psychologist, said the issue was complex.
“But I would have thought that waiting until the child is older is a more prudent course of action,” he said. “Kids can change their minds. Things that seem set in stone when they are 12 will seem very different when they are 18 or 19.”

Lecke Budapesten a Srimad Bhagavatam 4.14.39-40. verseiről.
- A brahmanák megölték Venát, a tolvajokat nem, hiszen az nem az ő kötelességük.
- Visvamitra végezhetett volna a raksasákkal, de Ramára és Laksmanára hagyta a feladatot, mert ők voltak ksatriyák.
- A kígyóbűvölők mantráinak hatalma.
- Caitanya Mahaprabhunak voltak társai mindegyik varnából.
- Ne legyünk kaszton kívüliek.
- Asvatthama túl sokat hibázott, s így elvesztette a brahmana kasztját.

Hari-bhakti-vilasa
Radha Govinda prabhu (Romania) shares the following verses from Sri Hari-bhakti-vilasa:
In the Padma Purana it is stated:
arir mitram visam pathyam adharmo dharmatam vrajet
su-prasanne hrisikise viparite viparyayah
If Krsna is pleased then an enemy can become a friend, poison can turn into palatable food, and irreligiosity can become religiosity. However, if Krsna is displeased then a friend can become an enemy, palatable food can become poison, and religiosity can become irreligiosity.
In the Padma Purana the Supreme Lord has said:
mam-nimittam krtam papam api dharmaya kalpate
mam anadrtya dharmo pi papam syan mat-prabhavatah
If sinful activities are committed for My sake, they become pious deeds andif pious deeds are performed while neglecting Me, they become sinful activities.
In Skanda Purana it is stated:
vasudeva parityajya yo’nya-devatam upasate
sva mataram parityajya svapacim vandate hi sah
A person who gives up the worship of Sri Krsna and engages in the worship of a demigod is compared to a person who gives up his mother and takes shelter of a woman from a dog eater’s family.
In the Narasimha Purana it is stated:
satyam satyam punah satyam utksipya bhujam ucyate
vedac chastram-param-nasti na devah kesavat parah
I raise my arms and declare it boldly that there is no superior literature than the Vedas and there is no superior God than Lord Krsna. This is the truth, this is the truth, this is the truth.

Preah Vihear Temple
SRS: At one time Vedic culture was to be found all over the world. Now you can hardly find traces of it even in India
Tranquil temple at centre of a storm
|
By Philippa Fogarty
BBC News, Preah Vihear temple |
![]()
The temple stands atop mountains on the Thai-Cambodian border
|
The view from the top of Preah Vihear temple is well worth the steamy, uphill trek to get there.
Stone steps and paths lead visitors through a series of ancient entranceways to the carved sanctuary high in the Dangrek mountain range.
Look one way and a Thai flag flies on a distant rocky outcrop. Turn the other way and the cliffs fall sharply down to the blue-green Cambodian jungle below.
At the top, the only sound is of cicadas and dragonflies. Lower down, in a market with a frontier feel to it, vendors sell gems and rare animal parts.
Things were good these days, one vendor said. The temple was open and visitors were coming. “The war is over,” he smiled.
But the temple has not always been so accessible, or so peaceful.
Bullet holes scar one stone wall, while to the side of another stands a rusting artillery gun. Further down, both Cambodian and Thai guards maintain a low-key presence.
These are reminders that bitter battles have dominated Preah Vihear’s recent history – and that one of them is still being fought today.
Court ruling
Preah Vihear was built mainly in the 11th and 12th centuries when the Khmer empire was at its height, its construction ordered by the kings that commissioned the temples of Angkor.
![]() |
According to Sanskrit inscriptions, it was called Sri Sikharisvara, meaning Glorious Lord of the Mountain – a dedication to the Hindu god Shiva.
It sits on a mountain-top promontory, facing north towards Thailand. The main access comes from the Thai side, because of the sheer cliffs behind it.
Cambodian ownership of the temple was first formally established in boundary settlements between its colonial ruler, France, and Siam, as Thailand was then known, a century ago.
A joint commission in 1904 set the border between the two countries atop the Dangrek mountain range – but its subsequent map, in 1907, put Preah Vihear in Cambodia.
In 1954, shortly after Cambodia achieved independence, Thai forces occupied the temple. In response, Cambodia took its case to the international courts.
Thai authorities argued that as the border was supposed to follow the watershed line of the mountains, the temple was theirs. They had not challenged the map, they said, because their access to the site gave them de facto control over it.
![]() |
But the court ruled against Thailand and in 1962, the Thai troops withdrew.
More trouble was in store for Preah Vihear as conflict engulfed Cambodia.
With its hill-top location, it was the last place to fall to the Khmer Rouge in 1975. Four years later, when a Vietnamese invasion swept the Maoist regime from power, it was one of the strongholds to which the Khmer Rouge retreated.
Years of fighting followed. Government forces managed to reopen the temple briefly in 1992, but Khmer Rouge guerrillas soon seized it back. Scores of fighters holed up in reinforced bunkers and held the complex for six more years.
But the Khmer Rouge was on its last legs, its leaders dead or defected.
In December 1998 the commander of the last group of fighters met negotiators at the temple to agree a historic surrender – one that ended three long decades of civil war.
Unesco row
Preah Vihear could finally be reopened. Landmines were cleared and paths made safe.
Visitors began to return, market traders set up stalls and there was talk of much-needed restoration work.
Signs of the temple’s Khmer Rouge occupants are everywhere
|
But the sovereignty row lingered on. In late 2001, Thai troops blocked access for a more than a year in a row over polluted water at the site.
Since then, it has stayed open, but the issue remains extremely sensitive – as Cambodia’s application to have Preah Vihear listed as the country’s second Unesco World Heritage site has shown.
“Becoming a Unesco World Heritage Site would bring international recognition to the Preah Vihear temple, especially the recognition of its universal value,” says Ty Yao, president of Cambodia’s National Authority for Preah Vihear.
The added prestige would bring technical assistance from Unesco and other donors, he says, while the listing would formalise Cambodia’s obligations in terms of managing and maintaining the site.
It could also be a boon to the tourism industry, Cambodia’s second biggest foreign currency earner, particularly given work to improve access from inside Cambodia.
Parts of the temple are in need of restoration work
|
But there is a problem. Although the international courts settled the row over the temple itself, the surrounding land remains the subject of overlapping territorial claims.
Thailand says it would not object if Cambodia applied to list the temple area only. But it says Cambodia has, in its submission to Unesco, included disputed territory within the listed zone.
It wants both countries to jointly manage the disputed areas until the border is agreed – and last month, sent a formal protest to Cambodia accusing it of deploying troops and mine clearers in a mutually-claimed area.
Senior officials from the two countries are due to meet at Unesco headquarters in Paris today in a bid to iron out the dispute.
“We would like to reach a win-win agreement,” The Bangkok Post quoted Thai Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama as saying ahead of the meeting. “We will try to be more flexible.”
Preah Vihear is not about to fall down – it has already survived a great deal.
It is a staggeringly beautiful reminder of the area’s turbulent past. Perhaps soon it will be known only for this beauty, rather than for the battles fought over it for so many decades.
